Welcome to my second Side Hustle Income Report! The jury (me) is still out on that name, but whatever, it’s good enough for now!
I made some great gains in September and I’m excited to share my results with you!
I have really been able to pick up my freelance writing as you will see below. I have perfected my pitches on Upwork and I have seen my application to hire rate go way up! It doesn’t hurt that I have my own blog now to showcase my work.
Last month, in August, I made $694. While this was modest, it was at least something! I was happy to see that number go up for September, and I’ll show you how I did it below.
Note: This income does not include my day job. This is only my side hustle income.
In September, I made:
While this is still nothing that is going to buy me a new house on an exotic island somewhere, I am very happy with my progress and I am enjoying my extra income. This represents a 66% increase from August, which means I beat my goal of 44%. Here is how I made my money:
MPF Affiliates: $557
Other Sites: $240
Seems vague, right? Don’t worry I’ll go into each a little more in-depth below.
On Millennial Personal Finance, I was able to make $557 in September. A lot of this comes from Amazon affiliate offers on some of my more popular pages. Aside from this, I also have a few other unique partnerships that generated some cash last month.
I am still having trouble finding affiliate offers that I can truly get behind. If you have any recommendations, I would love to hear about them. Now that my traffic is picking up, I could really benefit from adding some, and this is going to be critical for my growth moving forward.
I have made some great progress in my second month of freelance writing on Upwork. I successfully added 3 clients that I think I will be able to write for on a consistent basis. I have only really applied to subjects that I know about. I have found that I can use my engineering background to do some more technical writing. These articles pay a lot better than the personal finance articles I’ve written, but they are definitely more challenging!
I have successfully completed last month’s goal of adding 2 new niche sites to my portfolio. Though these haven’t started to make money just quite yet, my older sites have picked up some, hence the minor increase in income from those sites. I don’t want to reveal these specific sites, just yet, or how I generate traffic and make money from them, but keep an eye out for more secrets and tips in future income reports!
Goals for September
- Make at least $1,000 from all side hustles combined
- Find at least 3 clients to consistently write for
- Create at least 2 new wesites
Goals for October
- Make at least $1,400 from all side hustles combined
- Write and schedule at least 15 articles for MPF
- Spend at least 15 hours learning more about content marketing
This month I am hoping to eclipse the $1,400 mark with all of my side hustles collectively. This will represent a 22% increase as compared to last month.
Why is my new goal only 1/3 or what I did last month?
Well, mainly because I do not think I will be able to increase my freelance writing output as much as I did from August to September. I told myself when I started working on this blog and my side hustles that I wouldn’t let it interfere with the time with my daughter. I fear that if I pick up more writing gigs, I would have to sacrifice time with her—something that I never want to do!
I really want to start picking up the content on MPF, so I set a goal of writing (and scheduling) for this month. I think it is doable since it’s only an article every other day. Typically, when I start writing, I can crank out 3 or 4 if I really get into my flow. I am pretty confident I can manage this one.
My last goal is to spend some time researching content marketing. I have found that there is virtually endless amounts of information out there on the topic. I really want to make this research about of my daily (weekly?) routine. I think this will help not only my side niche sites, but also this site.
I am really excited to have beat all of my goals for September! Last month I was really excited about this blog and my side hustles in general, but that excitement has only grown as I keep working and see it all grow. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear about what you have found to work on your site. If you have any comments or questions, feel free to contact me or comment below!
