Many parents stop traveling when a child comes, but this is not really necessary. Your travel life need not come to a halt just because you have become a parent. If anything, you should enjoy it more now that you have a companion and much of your trip will be spent entertaining and soothing the baby rather than staring through the window, just waiting to get to your destination. However, traveling with your child will not be the same as traveling alone per se. There are a lot of preparations this time round, because you have to ensure that your child will be comfortable throughout the journey and back. In addition, you should consider if you are traveling when creating your newborn essentials checklist. Think of things that can help you create a home far away from home and you will be ready to hit the road. Here is a list of things you will need:
The amount of clothing you will bring to your trip will depend on how long the trip will be. If you are planning a long stay, you probably will have time to do laundry; therefore you may not need to carry so many clothes. Carry extra tops, just in case the baby messes up his clothes. Also, avoid the whites, as they cannot be worn for a longer time than the patterned and dark ones. Carry clothes to keep the child warm as well, maybe a jacket or two. When it comes to baby clothes, it s better to have more than less, therefore do not carry exactly what you think you will need.
You will need enough diapers for the baby and a packet of baby wipes or more depending on how long you will be gone. You can buy some more while out there if you are staying for a few days; therefore there is no need to carry so many diapers and wipes. However, if your baby only uses a particular brand of diapers or wipes, you might have to bring enough for the entire trip, just in case it may be hard to get the exact brand wherever you are going to.
Pack baby oils and creams, to keep the baby comfortable and clean throughout the trip.
Carry a sling too, if you have started using one, or/and a stroller. Once you get to your destination, you might need something to carry the baby with. Avoid carrying a bulky stroller, as it might be a big burden to you when traveling. If you are traveling by air, do not bring the most expansive stroller. You may never get compensation in case it gets damaged while on board. If possible, bring your smaller, cheap stroller and it will serve you for those few days you might be away.
Bring baby bottles, and anything else that you might need to feed the baby. If your child does not use baby bottles really well, carry sippy cups. This will ensure that your child is having his meal well, just the same as when he is at home.
Bring enough baby food for the trip and their favorite snacks. If your child has special needs when it comes to the food that they eat, you might have to bring enough for the entire trip and back, because you may not get the exact food your baby needs wherever you are going to. Carry a variety of foods and snacks because you may never know what the child will prefer when out there.
You will need a plastic diaper disposable bag as well, to dispose the diapers your baby will use during the trip.
You might need toys as well, to keep the baby playing during the trip and once you reach your destination. You do not need to carry so many toys if you will have some time in between to play with the baby. Toys are good anywhere as they keep the baby entertained for as long as it is necessary, and your child will not get bored, which could make them cry a lot during the trip.
Baby Car Seat
You will need this in order to ensure that your baby will be safe, legal and secure in the car during the trip if you will be driving. There are different types of car seats available in the market today; there are infant car seats for instance, children car booster seats and other models that you will buy depending on the age of your child and your preferences.
Zip Lock Bags
These are important in so many ways. You can never have enough of zip lock bags especially when you are away from home. They will be used to practically keep anything safe from spillage and contamination throughout the trip.
